Ranked in Top Ten in Nation
The Lee's Summit R-7 School District was ranked No. 7 among school districts throughout the nation in Money magazine's annual issue focusing on "America's Best Places to Live." The City of Lee's Summit ranked 79th among the 100 towns listed in "America's Best Small Cities." Lee's Summit was the only city making the top 100 list in the Kansas City metropolitan area's Missouri side.
In the magazine's August 2008 issue, small cities were displayed with a Number 1 or 2, noting the attribute where each city scored highest. Lee's Summit scored highest in "education" and second highest in "jobs/economy."
Test scores used in the education ranking are from Great Schools and represent the percent by which the school district's math and communication arts scores fall above or below the state's average scores. The R-7 School District has been recognized by the state for the past seven years with the Distinction In Performance Award, the state's highest award for academic achievement. The R-7 School District is also among a handful of districts in the state to earn a perfect score on criteria for this award during all seven years the recognition has been available.
In addition, R-7 students consistently score above state and national norms on all tests, including the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests and ACT college-entrance tests.
